Firm offers to process garbage

JAKARTA: Private firm PT Geosis Telekomunika, which is partly owned by the Navy, proposed to the city administration on Wednesday to process the city's garbage into organic fertilizer at its planned plant in Marunda, North Jakarta.

After receiving the firm's president, Anugerah Bomasanta, at City Hall, City Governor Sutiyoso said the firm would provide a 100 hectare plot in Marunda for processing the garbage.

"We appreciate any offer to process the garbage which benefits the administration," Sutiyoso told reporters.

Another firm, PT Bio Fertilizer Indonesia, has signed a memorandum of understanding to process the garbage into fertilizer.

The company would process the garbage at its plant in Duri Kosambi, West Jakarta with its 2 hectare plot provided by the administration.

Jakarta produces 25,000 cubic meters of garbage a day, most of which is dumped in the city's Bantar Gebang garbage dump in Bekasi.-JP
