Fireworks sold despite ban

JAKARTA (JP): Fireworks are traded openly in Jatinegara
market, East Jakarta, despite a municipality ban on the sale of
such products.

The wide variety of fireworks were being sold by many traders
in the area, Antara reported Saturday.

The traders displayed their merchandise on wooden tables along
sidewalks on Jl. Bekasi Raya, Jatinegara.

Udin, 35, one of the traders, admitted to having bought the
fireworks from a seller in the Kota area, West Jakarta.

Another trader said the merchandise had been bought from a
supplier in the Kampung Melayu area, East Jakarta.

The fireworks, including cabai rawit (red chili), banting,
jang we, and gasingan, were sold from between Rp 1,500 (25 US
cents) and Rp 10,000. Each pack contained between 10 and 30
fireworks. (jun)
