Fired worker gets promoted

KUDUS, Central Java: About 1,000 workers of cigarette
manufacturer PT Djarum Kudus demanded on Monday that the company
reinstate one of the supervisors.

The workers staged a protest since 5:30 a.m. until noon.

"We want our supervisor, Slamet Sidik back. He is kind and
always defends our interests," Lasmini, one of the protesters,
said. The group said they would resume work only if Slamet was
reinstated.

The company spokesman Prasetya Hadiwinata said Slamet had been
promoted. "This is just a misunderstanding. We've already settle
the matter and workers are back to work," he said. (har/edt)
