Fired Army officer arrested with drugs
JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police detectives shot former Army officer and suspected drug dealer Muhayat on Sunday night at his house on Jl. Pengadilan Timur, Pancoran, South Jakarta, deputy police chief of detectives said.
"Muhayat, 42, who formerly belonged to the Army Gandaria Inventory Brigade (Brigif I Gandaria), but was sacked in 1984, was arrested for possession of heroin," First Lt. Firman Noorsya said on Monday.
Police found 4.9 grams of pure heroin and at least 10 packets of putauw (low-grade heroin) at Muhayat's residence.
"He was trying to get away, so we shot him in his left thigh. He is currently receiving treatment at Kramatjati Police Hospital in East Jakarta," Firman said.
Separately, city police detectives arrested nine people for drug offenses in three raids over the weekend.
City police chief of detectives Col. Alex Bambang Riatmodjo said on Monday that seven people were arrested on Saturday evening for possession of 2.7 kilograms of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) at an apartment on Jl. Pecenongan in Central Jakarta.
"Anonymous residents from the Peconangan area gave us the information. We checked, and made the bust," Alex told reporters.
The suspects were identified as Yanuar Hendrata, 32, Danielle Giorgina Maramis, 37, Syarif Nurhasan, 20, Imelda Valensia, 20, Wiyanto, 34, Beby Espri Astuti, 43 and Sugianto, 33. (ylt)
