Fire razes three N. Jakarta homes

At least three homes in a dense residential area on Jl. Pangeran Jayakarta, North Jakarta, burned down at 1:30 a.m on Friday.

Seventeen fire-fighting trucks from the Central Jakarta Fire Department, with help from local residents, managed to put out the fire in about half an hour.

No deaths were reported in the fire.

As reported by Antara, Susilo, one of the firefighters, said that all three razed homes were makeshift structures built from material that easily burns, such as wood and corrugated iron.

According to Susilo, the cause of the fire has not been identified and is under investigation.

The financial losses are estimated to reach Rp 25 million (about US$2808).

On Wednesday, a fire broke out in Karet Tengsin, Central Jakarta, rendering 400 people homeless. The police are still investigating the cause of the fire.--JP
