Fire razes homes in Gandaria

Dozens of houses in Gandaria subdistrict, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, were razed by fire which started at 6 p.m. on Thursday. No fatalities were reported in the fire but hundreds were left homeless due to the inferno.Many of the residents tried to save their belongings and extinguish the fire by themselves before 17 trucks from South Jakarta Fire Department arrived at the scene. Police had to reroute traffic in the area. The fire was put out at around 9 p.m. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the police. -- JP
