Fire razes Cirebon market

CIREBON, West Java: Fire razed Drajat market in Cirebon, West Java, on Monday night, inflicting billions of rupiah in losses on hundreds of small traders. No fatalities were reported in the incident.

An eyewitness, Udin Khoiruddin, said on Tuesday that the fire broke out in one of the kiosks and quickly spread to others as almost all the kiosks were made from combustible materials such as wood. All the around 250 kiosks in the market were destroyed, although the traders fought hard to extinguish the fire using every means at their disposal.

Cirebon Regency Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Josep Wisnu Sandjaya said that his officers were investigating the case. -- JP
