Fire razes 3 stores in Tangerang

TANGERANG: Fire razed three of six stores at Vila Mutiara Pluit housing estate, Periuk district, Tangerang municipality, on Wednesday morning.

Amir, 40, owner of PT Aneka Jaya, which operates a welding workshop in one of the stores, was rushed to the clinic in Sangiang subdistrict, suffering severe burns.

According to Sediaman, a worker in the welding workshop, some employees were welding at 9:30 a.m. when a can of thinner was spilt.

"Sparks from the welding then ignited a fire immediately and workers panicked and ran out. Amir was the last to leave the store and his body was on fire."

The six fire engines that arrived at the location managed to put out the fire at 11 a.m.

Municipality fire chief Hendro Ruswiyanto estimated that material losses caused by the fire amounted to Rp 200 million. --JP
