Fire razes 14 stalls

SURABAYA: At least 14 stalls in a local market here were burned down in a fire on Tuesday, causing an estimated loss of millions of rupiah.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but witnesses say the fire came from one of the stalls which sold gasoline.

The vendor was pouring gasoline from a barrel into small bottles when it spilled onto a kerosene stove. Seconds later, the fire razed all of the stalls.

"We tried to put out the fire but it was too big and uncontrollable," a witness named Amin said as quoted by Antara.

Seven fire trucks from nearby Turi market later managed to put out the fire not long after it started. (hdn)
