Fire guts vocational school

JAKARTA (JP): A fire early on Thursday morning gutted part of SMK Tri Dharma vocational school in Kebon Pedes subdistrict, Tanah Sereal.

Thursday daytime activities at the school, however, took place as usual.

Night watchman Trisno said the fire started at around 4:45 a.m. He believes that it started in the school's kitchen.

The fire also burned a food kiosk, the students organization's office and a Toyota Kijang minivan owned by teacher Azis Tafiudin.

Engkos, who lives near the school complex, said the fire was put out by a group of firefighters, who arrived in three fire engines, with the help of local people.

"We were worried that the fire would spread to the other part of the school or other buildings around here," he said. (21/bsr)
