Fire guts textile plant

TANGERANG: A textile plant owned by PT. Sandratex in Ciputat, Tangerang, was gutted by a fire on Friday afternoon, but no fatalities were reported.

Juharna, a firefighter of the South Jakarta Fire Department, said as quoted by online news provider detik.com that the fire started at 5:58 p.m. When contacted at 6:50 p.m., the official said the fire was still burning.

He said that the cause of the fire and the financial loss due to the accident had not yet been determined.

To extinguish the fire, the fire department deployed seven fire trucks -- five from the South Jakarta Fire Department and the other two from the Tangerang Fire Department.

Retno, an employee of an office nearby the plant, said the fire did not cause any major disruption in the immediate area.--JP
