Fire guts Kodak film warehouse

JAKARTA (JP): A fire gutted a warehouse yesterday which was used to store chemicals for Kodak film products in Sunter, North Jakarta. No casualties were reported.

The fire which started at about 11:15 a.m. gutted the chemical warehouse of PT Inter Delta Film, a firefighter of North Jakarta Fire Department, Supardjo, said.

"The cause of the fire is still unknown," Supardjo said.

He said the fire caused an estimated Rp 100 million (US$37) in material losses.

He said the fire department deployed seven fire engines and the fire was put out within an hour.

Meanwhile, at least two other fire incidents took place in different parts of Jakarta on Sunday.

In East Jakarta, four houses were gutted by fire on Jl. Intan in Bidara Cina district, leaving the owners, all of whom were factory laborers, homeless.

The fire started around 4 a.m. and ended one and a half hours later. Eight fire engines were deployed to put out the fire.

The firefighters told the victims an electronic short circuit was believed to be the cause of the fire.

In West Jakarta, a two-story shop at Golden Ville Block AP/88 in Duri Kepa was also gutted by fire, which started at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Five fire engines were deployed to put out the fire, which lasted for about an hour.

According to the owner, Witsan Tirtasana, 50, an electric short circuit on the second floor started the fire. (27/cst/jun)
