Fire guts garment factory
BOGOR: A garment factory caught fire on Monday, allegedly due to an electrical short circuit.
Fire destroyed the building, owned by CV Mulya Utama, located in Sindangsari village in Bogor regency, causing losses of hundreds of millions of rupiah.
An employee said that the fire started at 9 a.m., originating from the employers' boarding rooms on the second floor of the factory.
The factory owner, Dedeh Rosidah, said that she had run the business for 10 years and exported garments to Japan. It had 40 employees. -JP

Road race ends in death
JAKARTA: A 24-year-old resident of Kramat Asem, East Jakarta, died at about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday when his Toyota Kijang hit another vehicle and then rammed into the wall of the toll gate at Rawamangun, East Jakarta.
Witnesses said the victim, identified as Jimny, was racing with the driver of a Suzuki Carry on Jl. Jend. Achmad Yani. The Kijang hit the Suzuki Carry and then crashed into the wall, tipping over and killing Jimny and injuring Tapsri, a passenger in the vehicle.
Ratno of the Kebon Nanas Police said Tapsri was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, while Jimny's body was taken to the hospital's morgue.
The driver of the Suzuki Carry, whose identity was not released, also was taken to the hospital with injuries he received in the accident. -- Antara
