Fire destroys houses in North Jakarta

JAKARTA: At least 100 houses on Jl. Tanah Pasir in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, were destroyed in a fire on Monday evening.

The fire broke out at about 6:30 p.m. and quickly spread along the street.

A duty officer at the North Jakarta Fire Department said that by 9 p.m. firefighters were still battling the blaze.

"We deployed 39 fire trucks to fight the fire," he told The Jakarta Post.

No fatalities or injuries have so far been reported in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. --JP
