Fire destroys homes at Kebon Kacang

JAKARTA: Fire destroyed dozens of slum houses in Kebon Kacang, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday. No fatalities were reported.

Officer in charge at the Central Jakarta Fire Department, Zaenal, said the fire occurred at about 10 a.m. in one of the houses.

He said his department deployed 12 fire trucks to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire in about three hours.

He added the police were still investigating the cause of the fire.

Last week, a fire ravaged hundreds of houses in Karet Tengsin, Central Jakarta, leaving more than 1,000 people homeless.-Antara
