Fire destroys 'bajaj' terminal

JAKARTA: Fire incinerated a bajaj (three-wheeled taxi) terminal in the densely populated Sumur Batu area in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Friday morning.

No one was hurt in the fire but five bajaj were destroyed.

Seven fire engines and support vehicles managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.

The bajaj terminal was also used to store kerosene.

A witness, Sutrisno, said the fire started at about 9:30 a.m. He suspected a burning cigarette butt thrown into a pool of spilled kerosene started the blaze.

Police said they were still calculating the cost of the damage.-- Antara
