Fire damages BDNI building

JAKARTA: Fire gutted the third floor of the now-defunct Bank Dagang Negara Indonesia (BDNI) building on Jl. Balikpapan, Central Jakarta, on Monday morning. A short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire.

There were no fatalities, as the office, which is currently under the control of the Indonesian Bank Recovery Agency (IBRA), was empty.

Chief. Brig. Sugiyono of the Gambir Police subprecinct, who was patrolling the area, saw the fire at about 7.15 a.m. The police quickly contacted the Central Jakarta fire brigade, who managed to extinguish the fire 30 minutes later.

Fire also damaged the Bureau of Forest Management project office in the Manggala Wanabhakti compound in Senayan, Central Jakarta. A short circuit was also believed to be the cause.

No one was injured in the blaze as officers managed to extinguish the fire, which began at 8 a.m., in 15 minutes. -- JP
