Final stage of French contest

JAKARTA (JP): The Embassy of France, through its educational and linguistic cooperation department, will hold the final stage of the French language civilization contest at Le Meridien Hotel tomorrow.

The contest is being held in the framework of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence and the Pact of Friendship between Paris and Jakarta, the French embassy announced yesterday.

Forty seven participants will join the final stage of the contest. The 47 participants, selected from a total of 781 people, include French language instructors, students and those from the general public.

The contest's first stage was held on May 6 in nine different cities: Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Manado, Medan and Ujungpandang.

Ambassador of France Thierry Beauce is scheduled to hand over the prizes to the winners at a reception to be held at his residence on June 20.

Prizes include round-trip tickets to Paris, Noumea and Bali and week-long stays in Paris. (hhr)
