Film review

I'm writing in response to Henri Audier's letter (Aug. 16, Confusing film review). I would like to provide him with the definitions of some words he could not find in his dictionary.

Here's what my Oxford Dictionary (the Shorter one, 1993) says:

- loquacious (p. 1629). Definition one: 1. Given to much talking; talkative. 2. Of birds, water, etc. Definition two: 1. chattering, babbling (definition two is chiefly used poetically).

- smug (p. 2196). One definition: Originally trim, neat, spruce, smart, tidy, etc.; now, having a self-satisfied, conceited, complacent, or consciously respectable air; indicative of, or characterized by, complacency or self-satisfaction; forms derived from smug include the noun smugness and the adverb smugly.

As for "lock horns", all right, there's no explanation, but on page 1615 "lock" lists definition 4(b) which states: engage in a close embrace or close combat.
