Film on 'killer' shaman a hit

MEDAN, North Sumatra: A newly released movie about a shaman who has admitted killing 42 clients in Deli Serdang district is proving a big success.

Movie theaters showing the film, which cost Rp 1 billion (US$100,000) to make, have been packed, Antara reported yesterday.

The authorities classified the film "for adults only" because of its sex and violence scenes but many children have been allowed to watch it.

The movie is based on the 48-year-old Datuk who butchered and sexually molested the victims. He was arrested last year and is currently on trial for the crimes.

Made by PT Diwangkara Citra Swara Film, it is showing at Plaza Medan, Benteng, Perisa, Aksara, Majestic in Medan and a theater in Binjai. (pan)
