Ferry accident kills six

PEKANBARU, Riau: Six people were killed and eight others were
missing after a ferry en route from Sungai Guntung in Indragiri
Hilir regency to Tanjung Pinang sunk on Sunday in Durai waters.

A total of 128 passengers from the boat are safe.

Officials at the Sungai Guntung confirmed the accident
occurred and explained that the victims were being treated in
Durai, while search and rescue officers were still searching for
the missing passengers.

The officials said the ferry Indo Jaya sunk when it was hit by
strong winds and waves after sailing for about two hours from
Sungai Guntung, Antara reported. (par)
