Fellowship for govt official

JAKARTA: The Hamilton Shirley Amerangsinghe Fellowship on the Law of the Sea will be awarded this year to Dody Kusumonegoro of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kusumonegoro said he intended to use the research opportunity provided by the Fellowship to assist Indonesia implement the law of the sea.

The United Nations Information Center announced here Tuesday that he also intended to advise the government on all legal aspects of marine affairs.

The fellowship was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1981 in recognition of the outstanding contribution of the late Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe to the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea, as its president.

The annual fellowship award is intended to enable qualified persons, in particular government officials, research fellows, or others specializing in the Law of the Sea, to research its implementation.
