Fedex to host corporate golf league tournament

JAKARTA (JP): The world's leading express transportation
company, Fedex, is to host the Corporate Golf League Indonesia
4th Season at six golf clubs in Indonesia.

Fedex chairman Harsha E. Joesef said on Wednesday that the
tournament will run from January to June.

"The purpose of holding the Fedex golf tournament is to let
golfers in different companies get know each other better and
negotiate business on the course," Harsha said.

The six tournaments will be held at Rancamaya Golf & Country
Club (Jan. 27), Gading Raya Padang Golf (Feb. 17), Riverside Golf
Club (March 9), Soewarna Cengkareng Golf Club (April 6), Gunung
Geulis Country Club (May 11) and Bogor Raya Golf Club (June 16).

The Fedex golf tournament is held in cooperation with
Ericsson, two daily newspapers The Jakarta Post and Media
Indonesia, House of Kangaroo (golf clothing and accessories),
Thai Airlines, PT Jardine Lloyd Thompson (insurance brokers),
Equil (mineral water company), Accord (hotel & resort group),
Radio Klasik RM and Bir Bintang (beer company).

Harsha said that Fedex had delivered 30 million packages in
Indonesia and wants to demonstrate its involvement in Indonesia's
economy.

"It is for this reason we also want to be involved in sport.
Fedex has sponsored a number of sports events. One of them was
the St Jude Classic golf tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. The
proceeds from that tournament have been donated to a children
hospital," Harsha said.

Organizer Pri Sulisto said 19 teams from different companies
had entered the tournament. Each team has four players.

"Each team may change their players. The best players will be
selected to participate in the Fedex tournament in Thailand," Pri
said.

Pri added that, apart from the tournament, there will also be
social activities where the golfers will be asked to donate money
to charity. "The proceeds gained from the activities will be
donated to a school for disabled children." (lnt)
