FedEx expands with flights to Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): U.S.-based Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has expanded its express transportation service in Asia with the debut yesterday of direct flights to Jakarta five times a week.

The new route will be served by an Airbus A310 aircraft and links Jakarta with the U.S., Singapore and 14 other major Asian cities.

"We are very excited about this new service which clearly addresses our commitment to the Indonesian market. This is par of FedEx's efforts to broaden its network, thereby providing greater service and access to Asian markets," the president of FedEx's Asia-Pacific division, Michael Ducker, said at the launching.

He said customers could now expect greater delivery speed since the service would connect the country to the rest of FedEx's network in 211 countries worldwide.

"This is part of our continuing effort to provide innovative services that will help our customers conduct their businesses faster and more efficiently," Ducker said. "With this new service, we are moving closer to fulfilling our vision of developing an integrated distribution network that will allow customers to transport cargo to virtually any destination in the world within 24 to 48 hours."

He said delivery reliability and services would be enhanced.

"With the use of our own Airbus A310 aircraft, customers in Indonesia can expect even greater reliability since this will allow us to accept shipments of all sizes for delivery."

FedEx serves more than 30 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific market with approximately 4,800 employees. The company said it provided the most extensive trans-Pacific airlift of any major competitor.

Operating its own widebodied MD-11, DC-10 and A310 aircraft, FedEx has more than 260 weekly flights to Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Osaka, Penang, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Subic Bay, Taipei and Tokyo.
