Father, daughter murdered

JAKARTA: Local residents in Jelambar Baru, Tanjung Duren area, West Jakarta, found a man and his daughter dead, their bodies covered in wounds, inside their fire-ravaged house in the early hours of Friday.

City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said that residents found the victims, Sofyan Setiawan, 73, and his daughter Yuliana, 31, after they managed to put out the fire that gutted the house on Jl. S. No 18.

Sofyan was found dead in the living room with at least 10 stab wounds to his chest. His mouth, feet and hands had been tied with adhesive tape.

Yuliana, who planned to get married next month, was found by the neighbors lying inside her room, her mouth, feet and hands also tied with adhesive tape.

Sofyan's wife had reportedly left the house at 5 a.m. for a morning aerobics session in the Grogol area.

"She said there was nothing wrong when she left the house," Anton said.

Police suspected revenge as a motive rather than robbery, as no valuables were reported missing.-JP
