Faster reading method for Koran

PEKANBARU, Riau: The local office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs will soon publish in Thai language a book on a new method for reading the Holy Koran.

Inventor of the Hattawiyah method, Moh. Hatta Usman, told Antara that his method will help people learn to read the Koran faster.

The planned Thai-edition will be translated by Muhamad Nur Ahmad, a Thailand citizen currently studying at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN).

"We are publishing only a limited number of copies, but if interests turn out to be great, then we'll publish more," Hatta Usman said.

He planned to also publish the guidebook in French, German, Dutch, Japanese and Arabic. The book is already published in Malay and English.

Employing the Hattawiyah method, people who are illiterate will be able to read the Koran quite fluently after an intensive 4.5 hour session of learning, Usman said. (swe)
