Farmers rally for land

BANDUNG: More than a thousand of farmers from the Pasundan Farmer Union staged a rally in front of the local administrative office on Wednesday.

Arriving in dozens of buses and trucks, the farmers demanded that the government give them uncultivated land.

The union's secretary-general Agustiana said the government should limit concessions granted to big plantation companies.

"Much of the land has been left untouched while many of the farmers don't have land to plant," Agustiana said.

The farmers then marched to local offices of the National Land Agency, provincial legislature and the prosecutor's office. (25/jun)
