Farmers protest plantation bill

JAKARTA: Hundreds of farmers rallied at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle on Tuesday to protest the plantation bill currently being deliberated by the House of Representatives.

The farmers, hailing from the Pasundan Farmers Union, the Indonesian Farmers Alliance, the Banten Farmers Union, the Independent Farmers Union and the Jampang Farmers Union, said the bill would only impoverish the nation's farmers.

Unfurling banners and posters, the farmers gathered at the traffic circle for about one hour before proceeding to demonstrate at the House.

They plan to continue the protest on Wednesday at the State Palace. -- Antara
