Family robbed in armed heist

TANGERANG (JP): Four armed robbers reportedly broke into a house in Kroncong subdistrict, Jatiuwung, here yesterday and stole 35 grams of gold jewelry, a television set and Rp 100,000 in cash.

The house owner, Suprapto, 30, said he woke up at 3:30 a.m. when the four men entered his room. The robbers reportedly pointed a sickle and a pistol at him.

"Don't shout or I'll kill you," one of the men was quoted by Suprapto as saying.

The robbers then allegedly ordered Suprapto, his nephew and his mother-in-law to wait in another room, while his wife Supadmi, 25, was instructed to show them the family's valuables.

The robbers took all of the jewelry and cash shown to them by Supadmi, he said.

The robbers also reportedly stole the television before leaving the house through a window and escaping in a minivan.

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Aryanto Boedihardjo said his officers went to the house after receiving a report from Suprapto at about 6 a.m. (jun)
