Family perishes in train accident

INDONESIA: Four members of one family were killed after a train crashed into their car in the Central Java regency of Batang on Saturday.

The four victims were Warsimin, 40, who was driving the Suzuki Escudo sedan when the accident occurred, his wife Gimaya, 34 and their two daughters Ela, 9, and Farah, 3. They were the residents of Semarang, some 60 kilometers from Batang.

The accident occurred when the Argo Bromo executive class train was heading east from Jakarta to Semarang at around 11 a.m.

As the train was passing through the railway crossing on Jl. Sudirman in Batang regency, suddenly the car drove over the crossing. The gate and the signal at the railway crossing were reportedly out of order.

The train driver could not brake in time because the train was already close to the crossing. -- Antara.
