Eye of the beholder

Teguh's love for Paris creates... published by The Jakarta Post on Aug. 8 reflects Amir Sidharta's poor art perception. Consciously or not, he actually admitted that he's not able to write a script without referring to anyone.

If the story is read carefully, every reader can see that 70 percent of the material presented was just quotes from painters and the third person. An art critic should be able to come up with his own conclusion, without quoting someone else. If not, readers can presume that Amir is still a rookie and just following a trend... and only a snob can associate with superstars such as Teguh Ostenrik and Ratih Sanggarwati. The three figures, including Amir, may regret that they can't live along with Hollywood's megastars.

Don't think that Indonesians lack an appreciation of art or are unable to understand the textures of Teguh Ostenrik's paintings. Teguh Ostenrik's pieces only illustrate his empty instinct as an artist. There's nothing new to be discussed, or even published in the Post.

Thus, because there aren't any quotes from any painting collectors, I conclude that Teguh Ostenrik's paintings in Paris were not sold, or even remotely appreciated by anyone.
