Eye infections on the rise

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Vitamin A deficiency is believed
responsible for a sharp increase in the incidence of eye
infections in the past three months in Banyumas regency, official
said on Friday.

Wiradi of the local eye treatment center said Friday that
cases increased from 150 to 1,200 per month.

"This condition is sad because the public are in a very
difficult situation in getting good nutrition," Wiradi said,
referring to the soaring prices of basic commodities. (45)
