Eye glasses

On Aug. 1, 1997, I went to the Optik Melawai store at Arion Plaza for an eyesight test. It was recommended that I use multivision eyeglasses. I respected their advice and ordered same. On endeavoring to select the frames, I was advised that my choice was not as suitable as some Titanium frames they had in stock. Again, although at three times the price of my selection, I ordered the recommended frames. I received them four days later.

Some months past and the frames came apart where the wings meet the frames. Melawai staff at Arion was very good about it and had the frames replaced, which took a week.

Some months later a similar incident happened. It was a definite manufacturing fault, as there was a weakness in the thin joint weld. It took another week to replace the frames. At that time, I ordered a second pair of glasses, this time with my choice of frame.

Within two months, the frames again came apart at the same place but on the opposite side. Again the staff was excellent, the frames were replaced again.

As I now had two pairs of glasses the original ones were mostly left in their case. When they were worn again, they soon came apart again.

I took the glasses to Melawai Arion Plaza. I was told by new staff that the frames were not covered by any warrantee and I would have to pay for the repairs. As it is a definite manufacturing and design fault I disagreed with their answer. I believe that five breaks in the same place must be a fault in the frame.

As no one answers my phone call to Optik Melawai Customer Service, I believe that they received too many complaint calls.
