TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Indonesian government predicted the export growth from Indonesia to Japan will increase by 20 percent after the partnership agreement between Indonesia and Japan is signed. There will be removal and reduction of the trade tariff. “The 20 percent growth comes from the study of the joint study group,” said the Director for Bilateral Cooperation at the Department of Trade, Sondang Anggraeni, yesterday.

Japan’s exports will also increase. “Their export growth will be less than 20 percent, but they expect to have more from their investment in Indonesia,” she said.

In 2007, exports from Indonesia to Japan for non-oil-and-gas commodities reached US$13.104 billion or 14.25 percent of the total exports for non-oil-and-gas commodities. While the imports from Indonesia to Japan totalled US$6.46 billion or 12.3 percent of total imports for non-oil-and-gas commodities.

Cooperation will be evaluated by a sub-committee led by government officials from the first echelon.

The cooperation covers the capacity to increase technical assistance. The Indonesian government expects the Japanese investment will also increase industry in Indonesia. “Cooperation will open up more job opportunities for Indonesian in Japan,” said Sondang.
