Experts to discuss remote sensing system
JAKARTA (JP): About 75 experts from Europe and Indonesia will exchange ideas on the application of remote sensing technology in a conference, to take place from June 6 to June 8.
In addition to the 75 presenting papers, 600 people are expected to attend the conference, which is jointly organized by the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology and the French Embassy.
The participants will consist of producers and consumers of remote sensing technology and geographic information system, the agency's Director of Natural Resources Inventory Indroyono Soesilo said in a press conference yesterday.
Indonesia will use the opportunity to explore cooperation with numerous institutions in Europe on the application of remote sensing technology.
Indonesia has extensively applied the remote sensing technology to numerous purposes, such as coastal areas development planning, spatial zoning, land mapping, forest management, pollution control and fishery development.
Along with the conference, an exhibition of space technology will be held and is open to the public, especially students.
Several European space industries, such as Arianespace, SPOT- Asia, Thomson-CSF, BCEOM and SCOT Conceil will participate in the conference and exhibition, Indroyono said. (rms)
