Expats hand out food for the poor

BEKASI (JP): A group of 12 expatriates in the We Care Fund (WCF) program distributed two tons of rice and other basic commodities to poor families in several villages in Tarumajaya subdistrict here on Saturday.

They handed over seven kilograms of rice, 10 eggs and eight packages of instant noodles to each of 360 family heads in the subdistrict. The food aid is worth about Rp 10 million (US$1300).

"This is my first involvement in WCF's serial social-care programs," Bernard Tan, a Singaporean, said.

Desmond D'Souza of India, who arrived in Indonesia with his wife two months ago, similarly said it was his first participation in such a social activity here.

WCF was established in January this year by expatriates concerned with the poor. It cooperated with Putri Kasih (Daughters of Charity) Foundation, a French organization, in selecting recipients for the food aid. (03)
