Executive trains introduced for Jakarta-Merak route

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned railway service Perumka will begin a new two-hour passenger service with business and executive cars between Jakarta and Merak, West Java, on Nov. 10.

Perumka head of greater Jakarta, Eddy Sasongko, announced yesterday that trains will depart from Rangkasbitung in West Java.

The train will service the Rangkasbitung-Jakarta route via the Serpong and Tanah Abang stations before reaching Kota station in West Jakarta and traveling to Merak, and vice versa, he said.

The service will be trialed on Nov. 1.

The train will have two air-conditioned executive cars, each with 104 seats, and four non-air-conditioned business cars seating 264.

Fares for the service had not yet been fixed, he said.

Perumka currently services the Jakarta-Merak route with four economy class trains a day, and charges Rp 1,600 for the trip.

On Nov. 1. Perumka will increase daily services on the Jakarta-Bogor route which currently runs 97 times a day, the Jakarta-Bekasi route (46 times a day), Jakarta-Serpong (36 times), Jakarta-Bekasi (48 times) and Jakarta- Tangerang (10 times). (icn)
