Excelcom fixes network

JAKARTA (JP): Mobile telecoms operator PT Excelcomindo Pratama said on Wednesday it had repaired its telecommunications network to prevent bad connections from recurring in the future.

The company's general manager of engineering, M. Baldansyah, said in a statement the company quickly carried out repair work after its network experienced trouble on Tuesday.

The trouble led to its customers being unable to use the service for several hours from 1 p.m. to about 4 p.m., particularly around Jakarta's business areas of Jl. Sudirman, Jl. Thamrin, Kuningan and Kota.

He said the trouble was caused by a sudden overload in communications traffic, which mainly occurred because many customers from outside Jakarta came into the areas and used their cell phones.

The company apologized for the trouble, he said. (cst)
