Ex-peace pact delegate arrested
AMBON, Maluku: The police arrested early on Tuesday morning Femmy Souissa, a former Christian delegate in the Malino peace pact, for his alleged role in the assault and shooting of a resident in Ambon last year.
The incident occurred last year but the victim had only recently dared to report it, said Ambon and Lease Islands Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Leonidas Braksan.
Femmy was arrested in his house in Kudamati subdistrict, Nusaniwe district, Ambon, said Leonidas. During the arrest, the police also found an FN gun in the house, said Leonidas. Femmy was briefly detained by police in May last year for his alleged involvement in a fire that razed some houses in Waringin area in Ambon during a commotion in the city on April 25. He was released as the police lacked evidence.
The Malino peace pact was formally signed in 2002 after sectarian conflicts rocked the spice island between 1999 and 2002. -- JP
