Ex-official on trial for alleged corruption

TANGERANG: The Tangerang District Court began the trial on
Wednesday of the former Tangerang municipal administration
assistant head of development for the alleged misappropriation of
Rp 6 billion.

Prosecutor Siti Zahara said the defendant, Agus Burhanudin,
48, who had been missing for a year before he was arrested in
July, had embezzled the money between 1995 and 1998.

The money was deposited by 28 real estate developers as
compensation for their failure to develop public facilities in
the housing complexes they had built.

According to the regulations, every developer is required to
hand over two percent of the land to be developed for the
construction of public facilities. --JP
