Ex-marine, guards arrested for robbery

BOGOR (JP): The Police have arrested seven people suspected of involvement in a robbery of Rp 1.8 billion (US$211,765) from PT Great River in Bogor, West Java.

Bogor Police chief Insp. Gen. Sudirman Ail said here on Thursday that the suspects were Antono Dwi, 36, a dismissed marine officer from Surabaya; Adi Setyo, 29, and Yustinus Lelatobur, 40, both security guards of PT Great River; HM. Matsudi, 43, and Tugiyanto, 33, both residents of Gunung Putri; Suyono, 36, from South Jakarta; and Micah, 25, the wife of Tugiyanto.

Sudirman said that three other suspects, Beny, Jacky and Henky, are still at large.

On Aug. 31 two thieves killed a police officer and Bank Lippo security guard who, along with a bank cashier, were transporting Rp 1.8 trillion in a Kijang minivan to the garment producer's premises in Cibinong.

Police said that they had confiscated banknotes to the value of Rp 50 million from Micah, the wife of Tugiyanto, Lilis, the wife of Yustinus, H.M. Sudi and Herayati, the wife of Beni.

They also confiscated some 58.25 grams of gold jewelry, furniture worth Rp 14 million, as well as an RX King motorcycle, a Suzuki Satria motorcycle and a Panther minivan which were all vehicles used during the robbery.

From Antono, the police confiscated a copy of a bank BCA transfer, three .45-caliber bullet cases for military Weap 1911 pistols, and a .38-caliber bullet for a Colt revolver.

According to police, the robbers meticulously planned the crime before committing it. Yanto and Beni surveyed the location of Bank Lippo and the routes usually used by Bank Lippo's cashier for transporting the money to the Great River building in Cibinong.

Three days before the robbery, they took the executors of the robbery plan, including Antono Dwi, to the Bank Lippo and Great River buildings and briefed them about how they were going to execute the crime.

On the night after the robbery, they met at Hotel Matra in Jakarta to divide the Rp 1.8 billion. Yanto and his accomplices in Bogor received Rp 500 million, while Antono and his accomplices, as the executors of the robbery, got Rp 1.3 billion.

According to police, the suspects had previously committed other crimes, including the robbery of Rp 780 million from PT Samsung in Bogor last December. (21)
