Ex-high jump star dies at 66

JAKARTA (JP): Former national men's high jump star I Gusti Oka Mona died of a stroke at 66 years old in his hometown of Denpasar, Bali, on Friday.

Mona, whose 1956 national record of 1.96 meter remained intact for 20 years, had been paralyzed for three months due to his illness. He is survived by four children and four grandchildren.

An official of the Bali sports council, Nyoman Sukadana, told Antara yesterday that the traditional Balinese cremation ceremony for Mona body would be held this Thursday.

Mona was among the first Indonesian Olympians when he took part in the 1956 Summer Games in Helsinki. (amd)
