Ex-gov. interrogated in Rp 33b graft case

BANDUNG: After three summonses and three no-shows, former West Java governor Nuriana turned up on Thursday at West Java Prosecutor's Office for questioning in connection to a corruption case.

Nuriana was questioned as a key witness about his knowledge of or role in a Rp 33.4 billion corruption case in which some 100 former West Java provincial councillors have already been declared suspects. Earlier, the prosecutor's office named four council leaders as suspects in the high-profile case.

As of Thursday afternoon, the former governor was still undergoing interrogation.

Nuriana was named a witness as he approved the disbursement of the Rp 33.4 billion to the councillors between 2000 and 2002. The fund disbursement was a violation, because the money was earmarked in the provincial budget for development of the police force and prosecutor's office, not for the councillors. -- JP
