Ex-BIN officials skip hearing

JAKARTA: Former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) secretary general Nurhadi Jazuli and deputy chief Muhdi PR failed to appear to give testimony at the trial of the high-profile murder of human rights campaigner Munir on Tuesday.

The court was supposed to hear mitigating testimony from five other witnesses for the defendant, Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, including Pollycarpus' adoptive mother Hiyan Tan and aviation experts Aviriyanto and Rizal Ali.

"We have summoned all the witnesses according to procedure, but they failed to turn up. Up until the last minute we tried to contact them, but we could not reach them," prosecutor Domu P. Sihite told the court.

The judges adjourned the trial and gave the prosecutor 24 hours to present the witnesses. -- Antara
