Evian fit to drink

In replying to Mr. Carris Juniarsa's letter Fit to drink? in The Jakarta Post of Aug. 25, 1999 edition, herewith we would like to thank for your enquiry about Evian natural mineral water.

Evian natural mineral water originates from a highly protected underground deposit protected from all risks of pollution (the northern foothills of the French Alps) and gets its characteristic mineral composition during a very slow filtration process through natural glacial sands. Calcium and magnesium are some of the main minerals present in Evian natural mineral water.

In some particular circumstances (very high or low temperatures, for instance), the minerals naturally present in the water can recombine together, and form some precipitates.

In the case of Evian natural mineral water, since Evian contains natural calcium bicarbonate in solution, under certain conditions decarbonization occurs, forming tiny white particles of calcium carbonate, that sink at the bottom of the bottle. In normal conditions, these particles do not dissolve, and remain visible.

The presence of such particles does not alter the quality of the product, and do not represent any risk for the health of the consumer and the water remains totally safe for consumption. This is just a combination of the natural components of the water.

To avoid such phenomena, natural mineral water bottles, like most of other food products, must be stored in a cool and dry place.
