Europe's resistance against Hitler

I am writing in reply to RB Sawrey-Cookson's delusion (July 26) that the British single-handedly won World War II. Such obscene nationalism is undeserving of response, but I shall force myself from the fact of sheer boredom.

Hitler was defeated from the resistance of many allies, including the crucial Russian offensive, which routed some 90,000 German troops, indisputably marking the turning point in the war.

In short, Hitler was stopped by the might of the USA, the resistance of Europe and, of course, the courage and valor of Australian diggers (including Aborigines), who needlessly sacrificed their lives in the name of the British Empire.

Finally, historians have recorded that Hitler had ample opportunity to raze Britain but chose not to, (mores the pity), because as Hitler himself declared, "the similarity between the English and the Third Reich was too great".
