Ethyl alcohol label

JAKARTA (JP): The government announced yesterday that the sales of all imported liquor containing ethyl alcohol must be labeled to indicate that excise taxes has been paid.

The Ministry of Finance in a statement yesterday said the ruling took effect as of Tuesday.

The statement said locally-made liquor with ethyl alcohol would be subject to the ruling starting April 1 next year.

Previously, excise taxes on domestic and imported products were paid when the products were bought by consumers.

"The new ruling will make it easier to control the distribution of imported liquor, which has lately been reported as being smuggled into the country," the statement said.

Payment of excise can be made at appointed banks or at local post offices. (pwn)
