Ethnic Chinese do try

From Bisnis Indonesia

I would like to comment on Lutfi Heyder's letter in Bisnis Indonesia of May 8.

1. You suggested that the ethnic Chinese should intermingle with the community. They have done so. But does the government itself support assimilation if it issues identity cards that have a special code for ethnic Chinese?

2. The use of Mandarin or English in public places. What about people from Java, Madura, Padang, etc. who use their regional languages in public places? Our country is democratic and a language reflects the culture of the people using it.

3. Which housing complex do you mean is especially meant for ethnic Chinese?

4. My hat off to you if in operating your business you have never used money to smoothen the settlement of a problem. You deserve an award for a citizen free from collusion.
