Ethiopia to import RI goods

JAKARTA (JP): The Ethiopian business community is increasingly preferring to directly import products from Indonesia instead of importing goods via third countries, a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ethiopia said on Thursday

The statement said an increase in Ethiopian business delegations to Indonesia over the last few years confirmed a growing interest in the direct purchase of Indonesian products.

Indonesia currently exports its commodities to Ethiopia through third countries such as the United Arabs Emirates and Saudi Arabia, the statement said as quoted by news agency Antara.

However, the number of Ethiopians visiting this year's Indonesian merchandise and commodity shows increased to 41, from seven in 1998.

The yearly held commodity show displays a wide range of Indonesian export products and is aimed at promoting the nation's export potentials.

With a population of 60 million people, Ethiopia imports Indonesian products such as clothing, textiles, paper products, chemicals, glassware, plastics and food products, the statement said. (03)
