Erin Brokovich visits Yogyakarta

YOGYAKARTA: Ignoring a travel advisory, several environmentalists from the United States, including Erin Brokovich, visited Yogyakarta on Tuesday and met Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

The environmentalists grouped under the Save The World Air from California discussed air pollution with the sultan.

"The sultan also asked us about conditions in Yogyakarta amid the travel warning," said Brokovich, whose true story was made into a film titled Erin Brokovich starring Julia Roberts.

She said she and her entourage would also visit Medan, North Sumatra, Jakarta and Bali to promote environmental awareness, especially reducing air pollution.

The American and Australian governments earlier issued travel warnings, urging their citizens not to visit WTC Mangga Dua Mall in North Jakarta after they received information of a bomb threat. -- JP
